Sitting in traffic is frustrating for everyone, and every Los Angeles driver knows how congested the freeways can get. Our team at MINI of Santa Monica came up with 4 tips for dealing with Los Angeles traffic below, so drivers can get to an art gallery in Santa Monica or venue in West Hollywood in no time.

Avoid “the 405” During Rush Hour

One way to deal with Los Angeles traffic is to bypass the 405—especially during rush hour, as the 405 is well known as one of the most congested highways in the country. Consider taking an alternate route to work to avoid sitting in a traffic jam.

Use Public Transportation

Taking public transportation may help you avoid significant traffic. Although most people don’t think of public transport when they think of LA, Los Angeles actually ranks 3rd in the top accessible metropolitan areas in the United States. Take the light rail for only $1.75 a ticket to make that dreaded morning commute a little easier.

Commute at Less Busy Times

While this may seem obvious, avoiding driving during rush hour is the best way to avoid intense traffic. Anytime between 7:30 am – 9:30 am and 3:30 pm – 7:30 pm tend to be when the roads are most busy. See if you can work out a schedule with your boss so you do not need to travel during these times.

Use Technology

When you want to avoid traffic, technology is your friend. Using apps like Waze are great ways to spend less time traveling from place to place, because they present you with the shortest route to your destination by taking into account traffic or accidents in real time.
